1 When is the best time to travel to Bac Lieu?
Bac Lieu is located in a monsoon region, experiencing two distinct seasons: the rainy season (May to November) and the dry season (December to April). Unlike other provinces in the central coastal plain, Bac Lieu is less affected by storms and tropical depressions.
Additionally, most of Bac Lieu’s attractions and tourism sites consist of relics, gardens, temples, pagodas, etc. making it a year-round destination.
Two recommended periods to visit and fully enjoy your trip are:
Lunar August: This is when the longan orchards are in harvest season. Visitors can see, harvest, and enjoy the sweet, fruit-laden bunches of longan.
October in lunar calendar: This is the time when the Ok Om Bok festival takes place, one of the three major festivals for the Khmer ethnic people. Bac Lieu Wind Power Plant
The Bac Lieu Wind Power Plant is the largest wind power project in Vietnam. The giant wind turbines make it the first wind energy field in Southeast Asia with 62 towers and turbine towers on this continental shelf.
Xiem Can Pagoda
Xiem Can Pagoda showcases Cambodian Angkor architecture, with motifs inside and outside the temple displaying the Buddha’s beliefs, including a 5-headed snake, dome, walls, columns, and stairs. The Khmer people believe that the compassion and mercy of the Buddha tamed this dangerous creature.
Tac Say Church
Tac Say Church is the resting place of the late Father Truong Buu Diep, a renowned figure with nearly 30 years of devotion to the church. The church’s unique architecture consists of three floors: a ground floor for guests to rest, and the second and third floors for celebrating Mass.
Ancient Longan Garden
When Chinese immigrants arrived in the early 19th century, they brought two varieties of longan, Subic and Tuhut, to grow in Bac Lieu. Today, a longan tree planted by Mr. Truong Hung, who introduced these two varieties to Vietnam, has grown into a magnificent tree that requires two people to embrace it.
Western House Architectural Complex
The Western House Architectural Complex features 30 villas and houses built in Western architectural style. The complex includes administrative buildings, courts, palaces, and district houses, showcasing the cultural diversity of the area.
Vinh Hung Ancient Tower
The Vinh Hung Ancient Tower is a tower architecture belonging to the Oc – Eo culture, the only one remaining in the Southwest of Vietnam. During excavations, archaeologists discovered a collection of artifacts dating from the 4th to 13th centuries AD, including stone statues, bronze, ceramics, and precious stones.
Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary
The Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary is home to more than 181 bird species, including endangered species such as Giang Lotus and small Cork, as recorded in the Red Book. Covering an area of 385 hectares, including 19 hectares of primeval forest, the sanctuary creates a diverse ecosystem of flora and fauna.
Nha Mat Tourist Area
Nha Mat Tourist Area is a large-scale ecological, resort, and entertainment area in the Mekong Delta. Occupying more than 20 hectares of coastline, it features an artificial beach along with various major festivals and events such as the Quan Am Phat Dai pilgrimage and the Miss Vietnam contests.
3 Tips for Visiting Bac Lieu’s Tourist Attractions
To make the most of your visit to Bac Lieu, consider going in the 8th or 10th lunar month, which coincide with the longan harvest and major festivals.
When traveling to Bac Lieu, you can choose between two means of transportation: motorbike or bus. For those in the Central and Northern regions, you can fly to Tan Son Nhat airport and then take a bus to Bac Lieu.
Bus tickets from Saigon to Bac Lieu range from 160,000 to 170,000 VND per ticket for regular buses. Luxury buses cost between 230,000 and 280,000 VND per ticket.
